چکیده
8 Abstract This research presents a bus fleet replacement optimization model to 9 analyze vehicle replacement decisions when there are competing technologies. The 10 focus of the paper is on sensitivity analysis. Model properties that are useful for 11 sensitive analysis are derived and applied utilizing real-world data from King 12 County (Seattle) transit agency. Two distinct technologies, diesel hybrid and con13 ventional diesel vehicles, are studied. Key variables affecting optimal bus type and 14 replacement age are analyzed. Breakeven values and elasticity values are estimated. 15 Results indicate that a government purchase cost subsidy has the highest impact on 16 optimal replacement periods and total net cost. Maintenance costs affect the optimal 17 replacement age but are unlikely to change the optimal vehicle type. Greenhouse 18 gas emissions costs are not significant and affect neither bus type nor replacement 19 age. 20 21

Bus Fleet Type and Age Replacement Optimization: A case study utilizing King County Metro fleet data
Bus fleet data have consistently shown that vehicle operating and maintenance costs increase as vehicles age. A fleet manager has to deal with the tradeoff between the lower operating and maintenance costs of newer fleets and their higher initial capital costs as well as the tradeoff between conventional and fuel efficient bus technologies. This study formulates and implements a fleet replaceme...
متن کاملA New Mathematical Model for the Green Vehicle Routing Problem by Considering a Bi-Fuel Mixed Vehicle Fleet
This paper formulates a mathematical model for the Green Vehicle Routing Problem (GVRP), incorporating bi-fuel (natural gas and gasoline) pickup trucks in a mixed vehicle fleet. The objective is to minimize overall costs relating to service (earliness and tardiness), transportation (fixed, variable and fuel), and carbon emissions. To reflect a real-world situation, the study considers: (1) a co...
متن کاملSTOCHASTIC VEHICLE ROUTING PROBLEMS WITH SIMULTANEOUS PICKUP AND DELIVERY SERVICES
The problem of designing a set of routes with minimum cost to serve a collection of customers with a fleet of vehicles is a fundamental challenge when the number of customers to be dropped or picked up is not known during the planning horizon. The purpose of this paper is to develop a vehicle routing Problem (VRP) model that addresses stochastic simultaneous pickup and delivery in the urban pub...

متن کاملA New School Bus Routing Problem Considering Gender Separation, Special Students and Mix Loading: A Genetic Algorithm Approach
In developing countries, whereas the urban bus network is a major part of public transportation system, it is necessary to try to find the best design and routing for bus network. Optimum design of school bus routes is very important. Non-optimal solutions for this problem may increase traveling time, fuel consumption, and depreciation rate of the fleet. A new bus routing problem is presented i...
